This range of pot baskets are handwoven by the women in Zulu, South Africa, made using Illala palm and grass fibres. All colours in these African woven baskets are natural, obtained from boiling roots, leaves, berries and bark of indigenous flora giving an assortment of rich earthy brown, black and cream tones.
Traditionally these bulb shaped baskets are used as containers to hold liquid (generally home-brewed beer!) and are known as ukhamba. The weave is wound so tightly that these baskets are in fact water tight. When liquids are introduced into the ukhamba, the pores swell, whilst the outside sweats, thus keeping the liquid cool by means of evaporation. While we don’t necessarily suggest using these baskets to hold your beer, we do think they look spectacular in the home and will serve many purposes!
This pot basket is approx 22 – 24cm in height.

Bolga Baskets can be cleaned using water. We do not recommend the use of soaps or cleaning product as this can affect the dyes used on the product. Baskets can get out of shape during their travels and this can be easily fixed. Simply soak the basket in water and reshape while the basket is damp. Dry in natural sunlight.Care Instructions
